Message from the Director - Mary McCluskey -2/26/10
We are just back from a fantastic weekend seminar, "Precision Neuromuscular Therapy for the Head & Neck" with Douglas Nelson. WSMT's two lead instructors, Robin Wenninger and Alesia Streff, accompanied me to Madison for this amazing class presented by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. Our knowledge of muscles, bones and nerves was refreshed and refined. We were challenged to think about how the muscles work together and how we can detect which muscles are producing problems for our clients. We looked at whiplash, headache types, problems with neck flexion/extension and rotation. It was a whirlwind tour of the neck and head! But we came back energized and motivated. We are refining our curriculum as a result. And, as always, I am amazed at the clients who have shown up this week because, of course, I have already been challenged to use what I learned with real people who are suffering with real pain. I must say, too, that I have been able to employ many of the new techniques I learned just a few days ago to help these people. When I'm able to help a client out of pain it is the most satisfying part of my job. Classes with Doug Nelson give me the latest research and effective techniques to facilitate these improvements. I highly recommend his classes! See www.nmtmidwest.com for more information. |
