Message from the Director - Mary McCluskey -3/20/10
Happy spring today! I awoke to a thin and very cold layer of snow on the ground! This was a bit disconcerting since we have enjoyed 2 weeks of warmer weather. I was on my bicycle twice this past week! Ah, well, this is the nature of springtime in Wisconsin. Why are we all shocked every year when we get this? The seedlings are growing nicely indoors. I've got lettuce, kale, double purple trumpet flower (datura,) mesclun, peppers, white datura, sunflowers, basil and yellow squash all up and going strong. And today I planted marigolds, morning glories, swiss chard, arugula, cilantro and beans. Planting seeds and watching them come up against a backdrop of snow outside the window is a very hopeful thing to do! Pretty soon these little beauties will be moving outside. The predictions are also hopeful for the coming week as warmer temperatures are expected to return. I have a picture of the Outpost Exchange cover to the right because they did a nice article on the economic climate of the day in relation to natural healthcare. I am quoted right at the end of the article: "I can't say the recession has affected us much. We are a small school with classes no larger than 12 and our enrollment has been about the same. Massage work for our professionals and in our student clinic has not reduced either. I think massage work has become a health-maintenance necessity for many people who will possibly give up luxuries like eating out or buying more things rather than the stress and pain relief they get from regular massage work." If you click on the picture to the right it will take you to the Exchange's website. Enjoy a look around. And thank you, Colleen DuVall, for the nice article in which you quote me! |
