Message from the Director - Mary McCluskey -2/1/10

February is ringing in with its customary dreariness.  Everyone around here is talking about how we just have to get through this month and then March is so much better.  There are little glimmers, though, I want to report to you!

My rosemary plant has burst forth with tiny purple orchid-like flowers! Also, the hyacinths are coming out of my refrigerator now and turning the most luscious green.  I have one in full pink bloom in my kitchen.  The scent is heavenly this time of year when there isn't anything outside to smell really.

When I am out walking I notice birds singing and it sure is lighter longer in the evening.  It is still cold and windy and we're supposed to get snow tonight.  But those glimmers of hope, they really keep me going.

Mental health professionals will tell you that December and January are the toughest for their patients.  This is very believable to me, because they are tough months mentally for healthy people too!

Maybe we need to keep thinking about all the plants sleeping in the ground all around us and how they will be greening up the place sooner than we think.
